A variety of articles, photographs, and short biographic blurbs on women artists primarily appearing in the Tianjin newspaper, The Pei-yang Pictorial News (Beiyang huabao 北洋畫報).
The most popular pictorial in northern China, The Pei-yang Pictorial News produced over 1,500 issues in its eleven-year span (1926-1937). It was the first copperplate-printed periodical in the region and for much of its run consisted of four broadsheet pages released thrice weekly. The Pei-yang Pictorial News’ comprehensive coverage included local, regional, and national arts and culture news, artist photographs, and artwork reproductions.
Approximately two-thirds of the EJL Archive has been uploaded to this website, with more to come.
